    Nice selection. The machete looks like an Ontario (no longer in business, sold out last year to Blue Ridge knives). The Garberg is awesome & hard to beat for the cost. I have a few axe myself but rarely use them. As far as a big knife goes I like the LT Wright Shemanese. Also check out the Becker BK9 & Condor Tool & Knife has several big blades ! I would love to see a man survive a winter in the North Woods with his machete or big blade. And to talk down about ESEE knives just shows that you don’t have any true experience out in the woods. If you care to prove me wrong, we live pretty close. I’d be happy to spend a couple weeks in the woods together. Hit me up.

    • @buckeyebushcraft
      @buckeyebushcraft 3 дня назад

      @@AnAmericanFather As I stated in the video (which you obviously completely misunderstood), I’m not talking down to ESEE knives, they’re just not my style. A Mora Garberg IMO will out preform any ESEE out of the box. As far as my experience level goes, I don’t need to prove anything to you, I’ve been doing this for 15 years, teaching all over the country to both civilians and active service members. I’ve spent thousands and thousands of hours and hundreds & hundreds of nights in the woods in all different environments and trained with some of the best instructors in the world. So for you to say I hav no experience because I’m not an ESEE fan shows how stupid you really are.

    • @pubplays368
      @pubplays368 День назад

      Look man. He obviously ain’t the sharpest tool in the shed but you don’t gotta be a dick about it. Esee is a pretty good brand but they’re not the end all be all of knives. The Esee 5 is a staple in my arsenal as well as a garberg. They’re both equally good blades that can bend 90 degrees in a vice and snap back to straight. I always recommend both to new students when teaching S.E.R.E classes to our special forces. If you have the knowledge. A big knife can do everything an axe can even in cold environments. I had to survive in oymyakon with a 7” blade during an operation that went south. Would I have enjoyed having an axe with me? Of course. But there’s a difference between necessity and luxury.

    I like the Garberg but it has one flaw that drives me nuts. The bevel is to small for the abrupt belly sweep it has. That's why most people have black coating still left on the belly portion. This leads to grinding just the apex which can cause an obtuse convexing or secondary edge. I have found a very lowcost alternative. The Flissa Scandi knife on Amazon in D2 Steel has an excellent scandi edge . Only $19-$25 I modded mine with new handles , they are excellent blade blanks for project knives. I think the G10 version is probably the best choice for those who just want the stock blade . That said if ya got the skills they are awesome blades. Some of the best plunge lines I've seen and the steel is a good heat treat. Anyways I got both on video if ya want to check them out. Nice channel ya got man👍 ill be watching .

    The ESEE Junglas is actually a pretty great big blade. I would have preferred a little beefier blade (although it is more metal than the Ontario RTAK II), but it works great. I've straight up abused mine for around 10+ years and it's still going strong. Again, more beefier behind the edge and convexed would have been perfect. Tramontina machetes for me all the way. Right now, rolling with a 13" Kailash Panawal Khukuri, micarta scales. Amazing chopper. Awkward for batoning, but it'll usually split via chopping anyway. Add in a small folding knife on sheath. Tomahawk head. Silky saw that's about the same exact length folded.... major firepower in an easily portable and concealable package in a smaller backpack.

    You can always add a smaller tomahawk head (like the Cold Steel Trailhawk) to the large blade kit. This way you have the best of both worlds. The tomahawk can take over for heavier chopping and splitting/batoning work without having the need for a heavier and larger hatchet or axe (though admittedly, not as efficient, of course).
